Khalil El Mahrsi
Ph.D., Computer Science Engineer, Data Scientist Extraordinaire, Video Games Nerd
I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2013 from Télécom ParisTech (France). My thesis was on using Machine Learning to analyse mobility data (more precisely, conducting spatiotemporal-aware sampling and clustering of GPS trajectories in road networks) and was carried out under the advisorship of Prof. Dr. Fabrice Rossi. I also hold an Engineer's degree in Computer Science and a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, both from the National School of Computer Science (Tunisia).
Between 2014 and 2017, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Spatial Planning, Development and Networks (IFSTTAR). During my stay, I participated in two research projects. The first one was Mobilletic: a project that involved many academic and industrial partners (IFSTTAR, École des Ponts ParisTech, Cerema, and Keolis) and that revolved around mining ticketing logs to understand mobility in public transport. The second project was AWACS: a collaboration between IFSTTAR, Safety Line, Aéroports de Paris, LiP6, and other stakeholders. It aimed to exploit radar data depicting on-ground aircraft trajectories to understand and improve airport operations. For both projects, I was involved in choosing and deploying the suitable data storage platforms, collecting and preparing data, developing machine learning algorithms, creating interactive data visualizations and cartographies, and coordinating between the involved parties.
I am currently working as a Data Science Technical Lead at KEYRUS, where I help our clients leverage their data by using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in order to solve complex business problems. Some of my responsibilities and past missions include helping , implementing Deep Learning algorithms to help DGFiP (Direction Générale des Finances Publiques) detect tax evasion and fraudulent behavior, supervising and contributing to internal projects and initiatives involving Artificial Intelligence (mainly in the fields of Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing), providing Data Science trainings, etc.
